Sperry Downeast

Creative 3-Day Discovery / Retreat

Inspired by four pillars: team building, adventure, inspiration and the need to unplug, Downeast marked a clear turning point for the Sperry brand. Downeast delivered the creative discovery and team building experience Sperry required to solidify a cohesive vision and steer the course ahead from a $400m shoe company to a billion dollar lifestyle brand by 2020.

Leather Journal

Perhaps the most essential facet of the experience was the locally-crafted, hand-stitched leather journal. It was used as a tool to record memories that will inspire the brand moving forward and the creatives behind it. 

This journal was so well-received, it was included in the Sperry Maker Collection a few months later.

Custom touches included Sperry shoelace ties, vintage sailcloth pockets, a hand-illustrated map, letterpress details, and probing prompts that pushed the team to dive into the maritime environment and evaluate how Sperry could continue to remain rooted in the sea while evolving forward.

Styling and creating the elements of this table brought me great joy - from the hand-printed leather napkins, custom menus, and striped driftwood made for a thoughtful setting that was well-received.

Driftwood Installation

To inspire Sperry, we welcomed them to Portland with a maritime-inspired gallery show that paid homage to the original colors and features of the footwear line. Rope found along the Maine coast was sculpted into the iconic anti-slip pattern featured on the bottom of their boat shoes.
