Last week, the kids and I took a trip up to lovely Mt. Vernon, WA to take in their annual Tulip Festival. The skies were overcast, which normally might put a damper on one's day out, but for the Tulip Festival, the clouds were perfect. During our bumpy tractor ride around the fields, our guide explained that photographers here actually prefer overcast and rainy days, as the flowers' color will be more vibrant and they hold their shape better. I almost left my DSLR at home in exchange for the convenience of the camera on my iPhone, but I'm so glad I didn't. The tulips were absolutely stunning, and in every color you could imagine.
One of my favorite quotes is "Bloom where you are planted." I thought it was so fitting as a compliment to our trip! The tulips thrive despite the cool, rainy conditions, and bring joy to many.
